We had the training. We had the will. We even had the Lycra. And we put them all to great use as the VTTI biking team took its place among 14,000 riders in the Amstel Gold Race in the Netherlands. The 30 participants from VTTI all completed the 150 km route, safely and in good time. Not only that, it involved 13 official climbs, including the steepest climb in the Netherlands (the Keutenberg) and the longest (the 4km Camerig ascent).

But we were driven on by our own pride, adrenaline, foolishness - and such a huge amount of sponsorship that success was the only option. The team’s performance, and the amazing generosity of our colleagues and friends, meant that we could hand over an incredible €80,000 to help fund research into ALS, a neurodegenerative disease that urgently needs everyone’s help. We were proud to play a small part.
