It’s amazing how rubbish and clutter will build up if you let it.

That’s why here in Latvia it is a tradition to have a National Big Cleanup Day. This year, our terminal staff not only decided to volunteer for this event – we went one step further by organising a VNT Cleanup day first.

That’s why on a cold morning on 12 April a group of more than 40 volunteers gathered at the terminal. In true VNT style it was highly organised, with 10 groups assigned to different areas including the tank pits, the warehouse, the document archive and all around the fences.

Everyone was given maps of the territory, trash bags, gloves, rakes and fun pens with a Cleanup symbol for marking heavy and hard-to-move objects on the map. Later, strong members of our fire-fighting teams came with their heavy vehicles and special equipment to move it all.

As well as removing all kinds of rubbish, we separated more than 30 m3 of scrap metal and paper for recycling.

Everyone was sustained by some great food and drink, and as a thank-you they received gift cards to the Ventspils Adventure Park. It was a great day and we showed that even on our weekends, our ability to be Productive People (a core VTTI quality) doesn’t stop!
